The kids are off school (and arguing in the back of the car), holiday season is officially here and the sun is finally making an appearance. Time to tell everyone about your red-hot last minute travel deals but worried about getting a bit hot and bothered? We’ve got all the tips to keep you cooler than a dip in the hotel pool.

Want to tell people they can save some lolly?

If you’re offering discounts or sale prices, it’s important that the savings are genuine and you can provide evidence to demonstrate that the same package was previously on sale at a higher price for a significant period of time before the sale began. The ASA is likely to apply the CTSI Guidance for Traders on Pricing Practices when considering complaints about holiday price savings. 

If your service operates with dynamic pricing, where prices differ with demand, it’s especially important that the “higher” price used in the comparison is established and verifiable. The ASA offers guidance on this issue here

Will customers need to get up early to get their towels on the sunbeds?

If you quote the lowest available price, you’ll need to be able to provide evidence that there is enough availability at this price to meet anticipated demand. Generally we would usually expect 10% availability at this price and the ad copy should describe the price as “from £x” along with any important factors that will affect availability (e.g. selected dates, selected destinations). If you can’t confirm this level of availability, we would expect the ad to make clear to listeners that the price is of “limited availability” and the ad campaign should end in advance of these fares selling out.

Are the prices all inclusive?

Prices should be quoted inclusive of all taxes, transaction and booking fees. If you offer a package holiday price, this price should include accommodation and transfers unless you make clear in the ad these are excluded.
