Radiocentre welcomes FCA review of lengthy terms and conditions

Radiocentre has welcomed new plans by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to review rules on consumer credit advertising and tackle lengthy terms and conditions (Ts&Cs).

The proposals from FCA were included as part of a new action plan designed to streamline its rules, reduce burdens on businesses and improve outcomes for consumers.

Within the new programme of work announced on Tuesday 25th March, the FCA has said it will look at removing prescriptive credit advertising rules, including unnecessary Ts&Cs, which are especially intrusive in an audio context.

Radiocentre has led a campaign over several years for the introduction of measures to improve Ts&Cs in radio ads, with the ultimate aim to make them both shorter and clearer for listeners.

Radiocentre CEO Matt Payton said:

“Lengthy and unnecessary Ts&Cs in radio ads put off listeners and deter advertisers. The FCA’s new plan to look at reforming these outdated rules is welcome and long overdue. We look forward to working with the FCA as it reviews the requirements around credit advertising which will ultimately help to unlock growth in our sector.”
