DEC appeal for Turkey and Syria raises over £120 million with help from commercial radio
The urgent appeal, voiced by British actor and presenter, Sir Michael Palin, was in support of the desperate situation in Turkey and Syria following a series of devastating earthquakes.
Commercial and community stations were provided 30, 20 and 10 second spots in support of the appeal with information on how to donate which reached nearly 122 million impressions. Listen to the radio spot below:
Matt Payton, CEO, Radiocentre said:
Radio continues to show its ability to be a force for good and we can’t thank the industry enough for their huge response to this appeal. Millions of people across the UK will have heard this campaign multiple times and, after hearing it, have donated much needed money to help the people of Turkey and Syria
Saleh Saeed, CEO, Disasters Emergency Committee said:
When disasters like these happen, radio plays a vital role. In the UK the appeal adverts played out by Radiocentre member across such a wide range of stations helped the DEC raise over £120million in the first month alone. Often on the ground in an emergency radio plays a key role in getting information to those who need it in often hard to reach places. Thank you so much for your support.
