Connecting with audiences

The UK’s commercial radio industry reaches 40 million people each week and our stations connect with audiences that other media struggle to reach.

Radiocentre’s Beyond the Bubble research highlights how over 13 million people rely on commercial radio as their principal source of information and are far less likely to seek news elsewhere. A summary for political stakeholders (here) highlights key insights into a huge, politically active audience.

Ahead of the general election in July 2024, Radiocentre published new research which demonstrates how commercial radio news provides listeners with highly trusted updates and has a unique ability to cut through with audiences, especially around elections. A short summary of the report is here.

Our members employ hundreds of journalists who work tirelessly to ensure that listeners are provided with thousands of trusted news bulletins every week.

Support commercial radio

While hugely popular, commercial radio faces a number of significant challenges – a briefing on the key issues affecting commercial radio can be found here

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on commercial radio works with a large cross-party group of parliamentarians to support the sector. The group is currently dormant following the 2024 general election but will be reconstituted in due course.

For more information on the APPG please contact Will Thomson, Radiocentre’s Head of Policy, here. The APPG is also on Twitter here.
