Commercial Radio’s DEC Coronavirus Appeal raises £24 million so far

The latest appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), in response to helping fight the coronavirus pandemic in the world’s most fragile places, was once again supported by commercial, community stations and podcasters.

The urgent appeal, voiced by Eurythmics singer and music legend Annie Lennox, was in support of the world’s most vulnerable communities – people living in refugee and internal displacement camps who have been forced from their homes after years of war or instability. The appeal has helped people in places including Yemen, Syria, Somalia, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan and the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.

Commercial, community stations and podcasters were provided 30, 20 and 10 second spots in support of the appeal with information on how to donate. The public have strongly supported the appeal, with £24m already raised. Listen to the radio spot below:

Saleh Saeed, Chief Executive for DEC says “The fantastic support of UK commercial radio has helped the DEC Coronavirus Appeal raise £24 million so far to help people in refugee camps and fragile states like Yemen, Syria and South Sudan face Covid-19. Refugees and displaced people are at extreme risk from the pandemic, and appeal funds will help families protect themselves and provide PPE and supplies to frontline medics. Thank you for your support.”
