The Olympics
The International Olympic Committee holds a number of trademarks related to the games.
As a result, any use of the following would risk complaint in a radio ad:
- The Olympic motto: “Citius, Altius, Fortius” (“Faster, Higher, Stronger”)
- The Paralympic motto: “Spirit in Motion”
- Official audio recordings of the Games
- “Paris 2024”
- Gratuitous references to Paris, or the use of “Paris” as shorthand for the games
- References to medals and/or torches
- Mascot names (the Olympic and Paralympic “Phryges”)
- “Team GB” and “Paralympics GB”
We would allow generic references to sports, “summer of sport”, etc.
Ads must not suggest any kind of economic arrangement between the advertiser and the games, teams or athletes unless such an arrangement exists.
This would extend to wishes of good luck, even when using more generic language, such as “wishing success to all our athletes this summer”.
Further guidance from the Committee can be found here.
