An update from the Clearance Team
Credit card fees
We learn today that fees for paying for goods with a credit card will be outlawed from January. In the meantime, Radiocentre’s Clearance team will continue to advise that credit card/booking fees levied on the purchase of goods (such as air and rail fares and event tickets) are included in the price quoted in radio advertisements. The UK Code of Broadcast Advertising (BCAP code) explains that all non-optional taxes, fees and charges that apply to all or most buyers should be included in prices quoted in advertisements, so whilst separate fees for credit card payments may cease from January, we will continue to ensure that prices quoted in radio ads are inclusive of all additional, mandatory charges in order to ensure that listeners can trust the ads they hear not to mislead on price.
Gender on the agenda – UPDATE
The ASA have now published their report into this issue, Depictions, Perceptions, Harm. The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP), who write and administer the UK Advertising Codes, will be developing new standards on ads that feature potentially stereotypical gender roles and characteristics, that reflect the findings of the report and Radiocentre’s Clearance department will work to ensure that the ads we approve for radio are compliant with any new rules and guidance.
