Keeping the nation smiling: the week in radio

We’re currently living through challenging times. Whether you tune in for the news, entertainment or a bit of companionship, it’s never been more important for radio to support its listeners.

You might be working from home, social distancing, or on the frontlines. Radio offers audiences a few moments of distraction, a voice in the room, and a bit of joy in a time when it’s needed more than ever. Some good songs, funny content and a few moments of collective positivity can all have an impact on your day.

Every week, we round up some of the best moments in commercial radio from the last seven days for your enjoyment. Whether you caught them live or want to listen back, check them out below.

Back to school

All this week, kids have started to go back to school. Kelly Brook asked JK how his son had got on, with her Heart Drivetime co-presenter sharing an emotional story on how his first day back went as well as a giving shout-out to the teachers, kids and parents going through it.

 

Celebrating Carnival

Although it might not have taken over the streets of Notting Hill this year, all across KISS, KISSTORY and KISS Fresh the Carnival vibes were out in force. With 48 hours of artist takeovers, DJ sets and performances from the likes of Sean Paul, Disclosure, Shaggy, Raye, Big Zuu, Shy FX and more across the Bank Holiday weekend. Bringing people TOGether

As autumn sets in and the weather becomes unpredictable (when isn’t it?), kmfm breakfast presenters Garry and Laura asked listeners to share their sleeping set-up in fun new game called Tog Trumps. Have you swapped to a winter duvet yet?

 

From Marvin Gaye to pioneering acid jazz

Last Saturday, British jazz-funk and acid jazz pioneer Bluey appeared on The Music That Made Me, an eight-part programme exploring the influences and important songs in the lives of Jazz FM’s superstar musicians.

 

And the Gold medal goes to…

Over 38,000 votes were cast in Gold’s Hall of Fame Top 300, which saw listeners pick their all-time favourite songs. Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody topped the final poll, which is available to listen back to as a playlist.
